I preferred to sit in the wharepuni (sleeping house) and listen to them k\u014drero. I loved learning karanga and waiata at a very young age under my kaum\u0101tua (elders),\u201d<\/em> she says.<\/p><p>Born and raised in Taumarunui, Teinakore has been teaching te reo M\u0101ori for over 15 years in her hometown, Taranaki and Auckland.<\/p><p>Since returning to Taumarunui in 2019 she has continued to teach te reo M\u0101ori and last year took on the role as the towns only te reo M\u0101ori kaiako (teacher) at Te W\u0101nanga o Aotearoa (TWoA).<\/p><p><em>\u201cMy tauira (students) have all become wh\u0101nau. I told them right from the start, you\u2019re not just tauira you\u2019re wh\u0101nau. Which means we\u2019ll all be helping eachother and we\u2019ll move on this waka together.\u201d<\/em><\/p><p>Teinakore started out teaching level one and two at TWoA but this year will also have a level three and four class on offer.<\/p><p>Teaching te reo M\u0101ori is more than just a job for Teinakore and being apart of TWoA has been a highpoint in her teaching career she says.<\/p><p><em>\u201cFor me I love everything about te ao M\u0101ori, I love everything about teaching. My main highlight is seeing people succeed and seeing people start from the bottom and at the end come out feeling on top of the world.\u201d<\/em><\/p><p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.twoa.ac.nz\/nga-akoranga-our-programmes\/te-reo-maori-maori-language\">To study te reo M\u0101ori locally through Te W\u0101nanga o Aotearoa<\/a>.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Growing up on the marae and listening to the elders k\u014drero (speak) in te reo M\u0101ori was a founding moment in Teinakore Harawira\u2019s upbringing.
