Two tribes are going to block it out in the world\u2019s very first digital Mahimaina p\u0101 wars using the popular video game Minecraft.<\/p>

Te W\u0101nanga o Aotearoa is proud to present a Minecraft minigame from Piki Studios: Mahimaina P\u0101 Wars, a uniquely M\u0101ori view of the massively popular video game Minecraft, which has more than 126 million active players worldwide.<\/p>

Te W\u0101nanga o Aotearoa is hosting a live match at 6pm Thursday 1 October, to preview Mahimaina P\u0101 Wars (aimed for release later this year), and can be viewed via the Mahuru M\u0101ori Facebook page at www.facebook.com\/MahuruMaaori<\/a>.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

Te W\u0101nanga o Aotearoa marketing specialist Brendon Moses says the match will comprise two teams of M\u0101ori gamers including some M\u0101ori game developers with a focus on using te reo M\u0101ori to increase their proficiency.<\/p>

\u201cThe objective is to build the best p\u0101 site, offering their iwi the mana and bragging rights for Mahuru M\u0101ori P\u0101 Wars 2020,\u201d he says.<\/p>

\u201cEach iwi will be given an hour to build their p\u0101. In addition to building their p\u0101, a tribe may choose to destroy aspects of the opposing tribe\u2019s build to give themselves an advantage.\u201d<\/p>

\u201cBut this will come at the cost of the time they could put into building their own p\u0101.\u201d<\/p>

Brendon says the stream of the Mahimaina P\u0101 Wars idea came as a way of engaging more people in te ao M\u0101ori and learning te reo M\u0101ori \u201cin a modern and contemporary way which reaches gamers and digital savvy youth\u201d.<\/p>

The game idea gives viewers a M\u0101ori centric digital gaming experience encompassing m\u0101tauranga M\u0101ori (M\u0101ori knowledge) with the stream narrated in te reo M\u0101ori and English.<\/p>

\u201cMate Karauna (Covid-19) has meant many planned events and engagements for Mahuru M\u0101ori had to be cancelled and this saw the development of the idea to create a digital world in which people could play, learn and explore together using their devices at home.\u201d<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
