She currently teaches a university philosophy programme in Aotearoa and has experienced classroom environments as a student within the American, French and German education systems.\u00a0<\/p><p>Having been fortunate enough to experience a range of diverse cultures, Sondra values learning and embracing the culture and the language of the country that she lives in.<\/p><p><em>\u201cIt was becoming clear that I\u2019ve lived here a long time and hadn\u2019t made the effort to learn. I wanted to learn even though it\u2019s scary. It\u2019s a big commitment, and I knew I couldn\u2019t stop once I started,\u201d<\/em>\u00a0says Sondra.<\/p><p>After recommendations from multiple friends, Sondra said enrolling at Te W\u0101nanga o Aotearoa was a no-brainer. After beginning her journey in 2021, she has been nothing but impressed with her experience of learning te reo M\u0101ori.<\/p><p>Sondra praises the quality of online resources available through Te W\u0101nanga o Aotearoa, especially during lockdown when classroom teaching was unavailable.<\/p><p><em>\u201cIt\u2019s been amazing. As a teacher, I know how hard it is to shift to Zoom and make it work for everybody. I feel like I\u2019m a part of a community here, and I keep coming back for that reason.\u201d<\/em><\/p><p>Her decision to study te reo M\u0101ori stemmed from a variety of reasons. She has seen her tamariki involved in M\u0101ori kaupapa through their schooling and sees the relevance in establishing a better understanding of te ao M\u0101ori as a parent and resident in Aotearoa, as well as with her mahi as an Associate Professor.<\/p><p>Last year, Sondra completed te reo M\u0101ori programme,\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.twoa.ac.nz\/nga-akoranga-our-programmes\/te-reo-maori-maori-language\/certificate-in-te-ara-reo-maori-level-3-and-4\">He P\u012b ka Rere Level 3 and 4<\/a><\/strong>. She is grateful for the exceptional quality of learning she experienced, and acknowledges her kaiako, Rob Bromley.<\/p><p><em>\u201cHe was open with his story and allowed everyone to connect with him. It was amazing having a kaiako who would make you feel so welcome in the classroom.\u201d<\/em><\/p><p>To further her m\u0101tauranga M\u0101ori, Sondra is now studying\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.twoa.ac.nz\/nga-akoranga-our-programmes\/maori-and-indigenous-development\/te-whainga-o-te-ao-tikanga\">Te Wh\u0101inga o te Ao Tikanga<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0at Te W\u0101nanga o Aotearoa. Still, she is adamant about continuing her reo M\u0101ori journey.<\/p><p><em>\u201cI have to go all the way until the end.
